Geri Halliwell

Born 6 August 1972
Geraldine Estelle "Geri" Halliwell is an English pop singer-songwriter, children's author, actress and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund.

Halliwell first became famous in the late 1990s as a member of the girl group the Spice Girls, which became one of the most successful girl groups of all time, selling in excess of 55 million records worldwide. As a solo artist, she has received four Brit Award nominations, released four number-one singles in the UK and sold around 4 million albums as a solo artist worldwide.

Geri first found fame as one of the five members of the girl group the Spice Girls, and was dubbed Sexy Spice for her seductive outfits and stage costumes. However, she preferred being called Ginger Spice stating, "I always thought of myself as clumsy, not sexy."

Halliwell became renowned for her independent and feminist attitude. The group joined the most successful musical artists of the 1990s, selling over thirty-five million albums with the studio releases Spice and Spiceworld.Their debut single "Wannabe" became the first of a string of number-ones in the United Kingdom (nine in total) and reached the top position in 41 countries around the globe, including Australia, Canada and the United States. Other successful releases followed, including "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1" from Spice, and "Spice Up Your Life", "Too Much" and "Stop" from Spiceworld. As a songwriter, Geri - as part of the Spice Girls - set the record for the shortest time to achieve 6 no. 1 UK singles, taking 1 year 5 months from Wannabe's first week at no. 1 to the ascent of Too Much. This outpaced Lennon/McCartney, who took 1 year 6 months (From Me to You through I Feel Fine)

In 1999, after having left the Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell became a representative for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). As a goodwill ambassador, Halliwell toured the Philippines on a fact-finding trip. She visited with staff and clients of family planning clinics, women's groups in slum areas, and college students.

Halliwell picked up UN work again in 2006, by visiting Zambia from 14 November to 16 November, to promote greater international awareness of the urgent need to reduce maternal death and halt the spread of HIV/AIDS. Both aims are contained in the Millennium Development Goals adopted by the world's leaders in September 2000. She attended the first 2007 BBC Four Reith Lecture and can be heard asking questions on women's rights in the recording.

So far, Halliwell has garnered the following musical awards in her solo career. All of her other musical awards came with the band Spice Girls.

* 2000 - Capital FM Awards - Best British Female Singer
* 2001 - Comet Awards - Best international Female Singer
* 2002 - NRJ Music Awards - International Song of the Year ("It's Raining Men")

Paris Whitney Hilton

Born onFebruary 17, 1981
Paris Whitney Hilton is an American celebutante, television personality, actress, singer, model, and businesswoman.

She is known for her appearance on the television series The Simple Life, her several minor film roles (most notably her role in the horror film House of Wax in 2005), her 2004 tongue-in-cheek autobiography, her 2006 album Paris, her work in modeling, and her appearance in a sex tape in 2003. As a result of several legal incidents, Hilton also served a widely publicized sentence in a Los Angeles County jail facility in 2007

Hilton has worked as a model, actress, musician, and engaged in sometime business pursuits. According to Forbes Magazine, she earned approximately $2 million in 2003–2004, $6.5 million in 2004–2005, and $7 million in 2005–2006

Hilton began modeling as a child, initially at charity events.] When she was 19, she signed with Donald Trump's modeling agency, T Management. Hilton has also worked with Ford Models in New York, Models 1 Agency in London, Nous Model Management in Los Angeles, and Premier Model Management in London. She has appeared in numerous advertising campaigns, including Iceberg Vodka, GUESS, Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Dior, and Marciano. In 2001, Hilton began to develop a reputation as a socialite, being identified as "New York's leading It Girl" whose fame was beginning to "extend beyond the New York tabloids". She has appeared in several magazines, including the April 2004 issue of Maxim.

In 2007, after watching a graphic video about animals raised for their fur, Hilton announced her support of vegetarianism and her opposition to wearing fur. Hilton said:
“ From that point [
after witnessing the video shown by Heather Mills], I've never worn fur and I never will. I also haven't eaten any meat since....I was grossed out. It was disgusting"

On August 6, 2008, Paris appeared in a 1 minute 50 second long video, "Paris Hilton Responds to McCain Ad", directed by Adam McKay and posted on the Funny or Die website.

The video featured Paris in a parody advertisement, and was made in response to a television campaign advert "Celeb", broadcast in 11 US states by the 2008 John McCain presidential campaign. In Celeb, McCain briefly compared his rival Barack Obama to that of celebrities such as Paris and Britney Spears, and goes on to question his readiness to lead and criticise his energy policy

Paris Hilton has been quoted as saying that she is the "iconic blonde of the decade"' and compared herself to Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe (a claim she denied in the May 2007 issue of Harper's Bazaar). She appeared in the 2007 Guinness World Records as the world's "Most Overrated Celebrity". In a poll conducted by the Associated Press and AOL, Hilton was voted the second "Worst Celebrity Role Model of 2006", behind Britney Spears. Critics suggest that Hilton epitomizes the title of famous for being famous; echoing that sentiment, the Associated Press conducted what they called an experiment in February 2007, trying not to report on Hilton for a whole week.

Hilton recently posed nude, covered in gold paint, to promote "Rich Prosecco", a canned version of an Italian sparkling wine

Robin Gayle Wright Penn

Born on April 8, 1966
Robin Gayle Wright Penn is an American film actress.

"When I had money in the past, I would always travel rather than spend it on big apartments or cars. And I still feel exactly the same way"

"We really enjoy entertaining our children with characters. We`ll act out all of The Wizard of Oz together"

"After every movie, I always kick myself for the same things-didn't do enough, not enough variation, not enough interesting choices, too bland."

"Hollywood is a suction for your confidence or your faith or your togetherness. Just walking on the street you can feel it."

"I could not understand why Meryl Streep, for example, is allowed to work while pregnant and I'm not."

"I just love getting dirty."

"Unless you`re a star in this town, you`re really nothing"

"I was technically a Valley Girl, even though I absolutely dreaded being called that. I really hated the idea that I was a Valley Girl."

"I would have made a lousy stripper. I'm just not very comfortable exposing myself."

"Famous is celebrityism and I don't want that. I know that I'm not that. Everybody knows who you are, I can't imagine living that life."

"No nude scenes. No sex-symbol parts. I want people to recognize me for my work, not just for being pretty"
-Robin Wright Penn

Robin's sexiness quotient may have slipped some over the past decade, but she still looks fine for a woman hovering around the 40 mark. Celebrity Sleuth magazine lists her measurements as 33-24-34, but don't expect to see Mrs. Penn posing in a sexy Maxim or FHM spread anytime soon. Check out some of her films from the '90s to see her in her sexy prime.

She was listed as one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1986" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 38. [1986]. Wright first became famous on television, playing Kelly Capwell on the soap opera Santa Barbara, which earned her three Daytime Emmy nominations. She shot to stardom after her roles as Buttercup in The Princess Bride and Jenny Curran in Forrest Gump, the latter role garnering her Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Wright was offered the role of Maid Marian in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but turned it down because she was pregnant. She had to back out of the role of Abby McDeere in The Firm (1993), with Tom Cruise, upon discovering that she was pregnant with her second child (son Hopper Penn). The role eventually went to Jeanne Tripplehorn.

In 1996, she married Sean Penn and changed her name to Robin Wright Penn. She went on to co-star with her husband in the 1997 film She's So Lovely, for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. One of her most recent successes was a supporting role in the TV movie Empire Falls as Grace Roby, mother of Ed Harris's character Miles Roby. Penn received her third Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for this role.

Marina Orlova (Russian: Марина Орлова)

Born 10 December 1980
Marina Orlova (Russian: Марина Орлова) is a Russian philologist, etymologist, and author who has become an Internet celebrity, hosting one of the most popular channels on YouTube, HotForWords, and a corresponding website. She also hosts a bi-weekly radio show on Maxim Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Marina Orlova, known to millions of fans around the world as a sexy master of language, HotForWords, is a 28 year old Internet “sensation”. Hailing from Moscow, Marina has two degrees in philology which is the study of linguistics and origins of words. Back in Russia Marina taught English and World Literature to high-schoolers. She came to the United States six years ago to improve her English skills and prepare for her Ph.D., but she ended up staying in the U.S. simply because of the warmer weather.

The theme of Orlova's YouTube videos, which begin with the tagline "Intelligence is Sexy", and of her website, is tracing the origins of English words. Some of her entries focus on common everyday words such as irony and OK, while others address lengthy and rarely used tongue-twisters such as floccinaucinihilipilification and antidisestablishmentarianism. Some entries also address idioms, including "let the cat out of the bag", "dressed to the nines" and "three sheets to the wind" or new words like the verb "to google". As a Moscow Times editorial observes, Orlova's success is not solely attributed to her pedagogical value:

Marina exploits her blonde-bombshell looks to the maximum: She appears in her two-minute clips scantily clad, pouting and making doe eyes. This is surely the main factor in her success. However, while the number of scantily clad girls on the Internet is limitless, not all of them put so much intellectual effort into their success.

The channel became active in 2007, and Orlova has since been voted "World's #1 Sexiest Geek" in Wired Magazine's "Sexy Geek of the Year Contest" contest. G4 TV has similarly listed Orlova among its "Hot Women of the Net" on several occasions, and Cosmopolitan Magazine has identified her as the "most subscribed to YouTube guru". Orlova has appeared on a number of Fox shows including on The O'Reilly Factor, and was profiled on "The Medium", an Internet feature of The New York Times Magazine. In June of 2008, Orlova and radio personality Danny Bonaduce signed endorsement deals with "coComment". As a G4TV profile of Orlova indicates, she received two degrees in philology from the Nizhny Novgorod State University in 2002 and taught English and world literature to high school students in Moscow before moving to the United States to pursue further education.

How did you start Hot for Words and what motivates you to continue?

Since I have two degrees in philology which is the study of the origins of language and the origins of words, I figured that it would be best to do something career-wise that I knew something about and that I had a passion for. I was a teacher briefly in Russia teaching a class of about 20 kids, but when I came to the United States and was introduced to YouTube, I thought, wow, wouldn’t it be great if I taught online to perhaps thousands of people.. plus I wasn’t aware of anybody else doing what I was doing.. so that made it even more exciting for me!

When I got my first thousand views I was thrilled.. and that motivated me to keep making videos.. then I got a couple hundred thousand views which was more views than people in my hometown in Russia and that made me even more excited! Today I am at 210 MILLION views and those numbers are just staggering! I get between a half a million to a million video views every single day and those views translate into thousands of comments and emails every day as well. It’s the sheer magnitude of the number of views each day and the number of comments and emails that I get, that really inspires me to keep making videos day in and day out!

How do you define cool?

Cool, obviously means, slightly cold, but as far back as the year 1000 AD or so, it also meant to cool yourself down emotionally, not to be emotional and that’s the meaning Chaucer and Shakespeare also adopted with the word. To me, being cool means being relaxed, keeping your emotions intact during tough times. Because a person who is cool during a tough situation looks great and people aspire to be cool like that person, cool has also taken on the meaning of not only someone who looks and acts great, but things as well.

What is the key to innovation?

Innovation comes from the Latin meaning “to renew or change.” So I believe the key is to create something new or go about something in a totally new of different manner. When people around you tell you that they think your idea is stupid, that’s almost a sign that you absolutely NEED to do it! I had NOBODY around me thinking what I was doing was a good idea, and now all those naysayers are hitting me up for advice on launching their own things that are based on what I do.

What are your ambitions for Hot for Words?

I have a book that came out on August 15th through Harper Collins called “Hot for Words,” I have an awesome iPhone game coming out that is completely NOT what you would expect and I am creating a game show for online based on my show. But my future is to keep making the videos online that I am making. All of Hollywood and the world is shifting to the Internet, TV is shifting here as well. And since I am already here, it means that things can only grow for me in the future.

What are your most important hobbies?

Since etymology was my hobby and I made it into my career, I find that most of my time is spent doing SOMETHING related to my career! It’s the best of both worlds! Take your interest or hobby and turn it into your career and will find yourself “playing” all the time and getting paid for it!!!
